We’re thrilled to announce the successful completion of our live fire testing in Slovenia, conducted in partnership with the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG). We put our Protectowire CTI-220-XCR Linear Heat Detector (activation temperature 220°F/105°C), which features temperature verification and short circuit discrimination, to the ultimate test against rooftop solar panel fires.
Our partners at ZAG tested our digital linear heat detector by igniting four unique solar panel mockups. Each mockup had a different configuration and mounting angle to simulate a variety of real-world fire scenarios. Our dual vision thermal camera system captured every moment, with the thermal cameras going into alarm in less than 2 seconds after ignition! This allowed us to analyze flame propagation and detector response in real-time.
Our results are in, and we’re excited to report that our detectors proved to be an effective early warning system. This testing confirmed that detector location is critical – installing the detector near the upper edge of a sloped panel array provides the fastest and most effective protection.
This testing is a huge step forward in our mission to protect lives and property from the dangers of electrical fires in solar panel arrays.
